Crataegus Laevigata
My pink flowering hawthorn was a picture this year, best it has flowered to date.
Its real name is Crataegus laevigata 'Rosea Flore Pleno' and I dug it in 2011.
It will now get a post-flowering trim in places, and in others it will be allowed to grow a fill in a few holes. There are a few viewing sides of this tree but I prefer the first photo as it shows the trunk movement best.

Re: Crataegus Laevigata
Wow - nice tree & nicely photographed Watto,
(
the colour of your backdrop)
I have never owned Hawthorn, don't know anything about them. (& I am struggling to pronounce the botanical name.)
Those flowers look very delicate, especially contrasting against the texture of that trunk- are the flowers highly perfumed?
I think from the photos I like your proposed alternate front best.
Appreciate your time & effort and willingness to share!

Re: Crataegus Laevigata
I don't know how old it is Mike, but the trunk is about 170mm wide so must be a reasonable age.
Peter, its been very rewarding and flowered the next year after digging but just a few spot flowers, and has improved its flowering each year since.
Here is a photo of "dig day".

A great score Watto. They are a very rewarding tree and i like where it is going. Did you know they also have a deep red version of this but i have yet to see one.

Re: Crataegus Laevigata
Hi Keep Calm, the flowers do not have a distinctive smell and I think you may struggle to grow them at Newcastle as they like a cool winter.
Bodhi, it was you who correctly named this for me some time ago so I am in your debt (again). Is the red flowered one 'Paul's Scarlet'? I have seen one in the bark but I would be interested.

Love the contrast of a gnarly trunk with the lush foliage and delicate flowers.

Re: Crataegus Laevigata
Thanks Budhi, the Paul's Scarlet I saw was a grafted plant.
I have decided that the pink flowering variety is easier to make flower than the standard white flowering variety.
