Too Late for Larch Root Prune?

Post by one_bonsai »

Have a Japanese Larch and all of its buds have opened. Is it too late to root prune and transfer to a bonsai pot?

I do not grow larch but they have a reputation for being temperamental at the best of times so I would delay any root work if shoots are open just in case.

I would recommend not, have lost several root pruning when buds were swelling let alone when it’s in leaf.

The only reason my last 3 are alive still is they are in the ground. Every time I touch the roots and put them in a pot they go south. It’s almost time to give up on them here in Melbourne
