South Australian Bonsai Society Annual Bonsai Show
I am considering going along his weekend, it will be a 4 hr drive do you think it will be worth the effort? I am surprised that there has been no reference to this event on the site to date.
Peter.

Re: South Australian Bonsai Society Annual Bonsai Show
HI Peter,
I was going to post a reminder about the Annual Show earlier but got sidetracked, so thanks for the reminder.
The SA Bonsai Society is holding it's annual show this weekend - Sat and Sun from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
Adults $3, children free. Goodwood Community Centre - 32 Rosa St, Goodwood.
I'm biased but it'll be worth the trip. There's the exhibition plus regular demonstrations and a large sales area. Tress, bonsai, tools, stands, pots including handmade from local potters and vintage Chinese. There's a barista on site too! The trees get picked over pretty quick so if you are after bonsai then Saturday morning would be your best bet, although some are held over for Sunday.
This event just keeps growing, we get thousands through every year and the quality of bonsai on display keeps improving.
Hope to see Ausbonsai people there. I can't be there on the Saturday due to a family wedding but if you're there on Sunday stop and say hi.
Cheers,
Matt.

Thanks for the reply, will there be a good selection of pre bonsai stock? I will be looking for something a bit more advanced than I have at the moment.I believe here is a native Australian plant sale on as well at the show grounds.
I am only going Saturday back on the road Sunday, hope you enjoy yourself on the weekend.
Peter.

Hi Peter,
There is generally a range of plants for sale - advanced as well as starters. Never really sure what you are going to find but as Matt mentioned, the serious plant hunters are there bright and early Saturday. I may need to sneak out and see what tubestock is available at the showgrounds
, good thing it's close

Re: South Australian Bonsai Society Annual Bonsai Show
I couldn't manage to stop by in the morning, and it appeared most of the good stock was already picked when I got there. Is there much point in stopping by again first thing Sunday to see if there are any good buys?

I dropped in on Sunday - great display. Matt, any chance you could share a photo of the final product from your 11am raft demo? I caught the start but had to duck out early (around the time you were talking about choosing the front) due to a slightly cranky baby.

Hi Greg.
When I get a chance I'll put up some photos of the exhibition and demos. Glad you enjoyed the weekend, it was a great display and the trading table was picked pretty clean, so I'll call it a success.

Hi ausbonsai community, here's some photos I took from Sunday for those that weren't able to make it
Had a brief chat with you after your raft demonstration Matt - thanks for answering my questions & being patient.

Some bl@@dy beautiful trees there! I am very interested in the windswept'ish Olive because it reminds my of the younger version that I am working on. I also love the group of trees (not sure what) in the green pot (the group under the dragon-jin Juniper). That group is reminiscent of something I have seen at the NBPCA - absolutely fantastic whoever put that together.
Thanks for posting pics.

Glad you enjoyed, I really love the Olives too.
If I remember correctly it was a Cape Cotton Bush!

You are correct it is a cape cotton bush, I saw it and was very impressed with it. You will find it was a topic in 2016.
