JBP white fungus

Post by Dylisco »

Hi all,

Have this white fungus on a few of my pines, any idea of what it is and what I can do to get rid of it?

Could be wooly aphids which can be treated with neem oil. Good luck with it.

Agree with Keels, that’s aphid. I treat with pyrethrum, I assume neem oil is also good as suggested.

I’ve found jetting them off with my hose on high blast gets rid of them.

Full sun and air stops them.

I reckon if you look at all my posts I asked the same question and got the above treatment.

If you have white woolly stuff on the branches it is almost certainly Pine Bark Adeljid - related to aphids but a lot tougher and harder to deal with. heavy infestations really knock pines around as the bugs are all sucking sap.

I usually resort to a systemic insecticide as many of the contact sprays can't get through the woolly coat.
Alcohol (Methylated spirits) is effective in killing any adults but it is time consuming dabbing it on each cluster with a brush or cotton bud. I tried spraying metho with a spray bottle which worked well and did not seem to affect the trees.
Whatever you use you should repeat several times through the growing season to catch the new ones that hatch.
