Hi,
I'm after a source for quartz in Victoria (or able to deliver to Melbourne region).
I've been trying to find it for months now - calling up every garden supply or soil supply company I can google, but nobody has it.
Various places have it in 20mm+ size, but I'm really after 1-7mm size. (or anything in that range, 3-5, 2-6, etc.)
If anybody knows where to source it, please let me know.
I'm only after ~50kg, but if a metric tonne is required, I'm prepared to buy a metric tonne.
Thank you!

I've had a look into Daisy's and unfortunately, their propagating sand is too small. Around 40-50% of the sand is <1mm - this is the case at the Daisy's closest to me anyway.

Why do you need Quartz?
it will not hold water or fertilizer so not sure why one would use it. Decomposed Granite would be similar?

Re: Quartz (1-7mm) availability in Victoria
It's good at promoting root growth, particularly in our climate.
Main reason I've worked out is because it changes temperature very well, meaning it will cool in our summers sufficiently to allow roots to grow (in the tree species I like to grow, JBP and Shimpaku).
Particles which hold water and air will change temperate much slower.
There's also the added benefit of being slightly resistant to bacteria, though I've only read that in one place a while ago so I'm not sure about it.

Hello SBS,
Have a look at your local pool shops and pool equipment suppliers.
The sand used in pool filtration systems is quite coarse, how coarse? I can't remember. But worth a try.
Also, what about aquarium wholesalers and retailers?
Kevin
Edit: Just had a very quick look online and came across the below product. Expensive at this supplier, but it is the desired particle size. Therefore your local pool suppliers should stock equivalent products.
