hey guy, heres another one of my trees that i need some help with. this ones a needle juniper with some age and im really not sure what i need to do with this. im having a real hard time planning out how to build the apex. the primary branch in the center is leaning about 45 degrees towards the front and im not sure what to do with it. some of the foliage is very compact and some are kinda long. im thinking about wiring it this weekend but im not sure if i should prune some of the foliage since over here we've just entered our winter season. so any help with this would be great, everyones ideas here on ausbonsai are great.
thanks

i think once you thin it out you will have more of an idea where to take it, if you are really stuck for ideas once thinned out take a pic and post it from a few different angles around the tree, not so much from an up or down perspective, the trunk is very straight so it is call for formal sort of a look, you will have plenty of branch selection in the crown, and hopefully lower down to neaten the pads out, this will give you a much cleaner look at the tree and a better perspective

Re: lookin for some ideas on a needle juniper
in #3 can you tilt to left slightly so the trunk is leaning that way slightly?
this will bring that main stem over the base and give a more balanced feel I think

Re: lookin for some ideas on a needle juniper
G,day mate is it possible that you take a pic from each corner of the pot please as I see some more possabiltie's . The foliage needs thinning then we can see better the line of the trunk and branches.
Also the roots ( Nebari ) need to be cleaned up as you have some crossing roots there.
I think this is Juniperus feomina ( common name the American juniper ) It is the one used by the late John.Y.Naka to create Goshin 1 and 2 . They do have prickly juvinile foliage, that causes people to refer to them as needle juniper's. When the foliage matures it is like Shimpaku it just takes awhile. My group of them as just started to show it.
Any way Jimmyle if you can do that I might be able to help.
Cheers
