Twisted Shimpaku

Hey guys,
Thought it was time to properly try a twisted you g shimpaku to hopefully make some nice material in a few years.
Started with this ordinary multiple trunk type shimpaku. $14.50 nursery stock

And then twisted it up ^_^

Plan now is to feed it quite heavily and let it grow. I'll keep an eye on the wire to make sure it doesn't dig in too much.

wouldnt stress about wire scars to much, they can always become shari

i am actually gonna let one of mine that i am trying dig in quite a fair bit to try and induce swelling around the wire to create a "different" shape in the trunk, if it works, sweet, if not ahwell, i will figure something out!

good start, look forward to seeing it in a couple of years

way to go nath. sorry ya can never see much when this is done. just make sure yur bends are as tight as you can slowly over time. it will spring back some later.

Thanks guys! It was quite an exciting project to get started !
Ant - will definately keep an eye on the bends regularly.
Jamie - Yeah, I wasn't tooooooooooooo worried about scaring, but didn't think it would be healthy to dig in too far

not to far but if it can make some interesting marks that will be permanent then why not, after all we are trying to get an aged look, if wire scars will help this without looking contrived, then why not?

i am letting the one i am trying it on dig right in, then i will remove it ones it is near impossible to remove, basically make a shari of its own with the wire.
(i purposely did a crap job of the wiring so it was a bit tighter coil here and wider apart there.)

i've seen this, it's quite good, but i think you're right with bad wiring, good wiring looks unnatural.

also i think 2 or 3 wires thick may be the trick...
