clerodendrum triple trunk

Post by Jamie »

hey people!

here is a clero i got yesterday, a nice little triple trunk, it is about 300mm tall is about 240mm across the base! the new buds are popping all over the place!
its gone into a diatomite, potting soil, zeolite mix, it should like it, hopefully.
i know these are tough as nails so it should be sweet!

any advice on growth habits and stuff would be greatly appreciated :D i know they boom once they get going but other than that, i have no experience with them!

just looking at this one while i still had some light, i think it needs to be turned slightly clokwise to be a better front :D
it will make it much more dynamic, i think that will happen at the next repot :D

Thats a ripper Jamie. I would be intrested to see good pictures from several angles. Thier may be another front that is not so Symetrical.
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

you will have to excuse the back ground and the bit of blurryness, shaky hands, i relly need a studio sort of setup!

a few different angles
C d a .jpg
C d b.jpg
C d c.jpg
theres a couple in there for sure. i do want to change the angle on it, i think i rushed a little bit on the potting, i should of really made sure of it but alas, my bad. i will be changing the angle on repot for sure, its only slight changes but it makes a lot of difference.

G`day Jamie it has cleaned up well they should make nice trees. Remember mate what looks like the obvious front can sometimes be a little boring, I find it is usually better to look at the options from all angles . That can sometimes mean just a slight turn, it was good to meet you and Tony on sat. :D CHEERS ROD...

it has cleaned up well, and yeah your right about the slight turn for sure, i was trying to get it on the angle i wanted but obviously it didnt happen, must of moved a little when i tied it in with the wire.

i am thinking i might even untie it and twist it a bit and get it in the right position tomorrow, i am liking shot C d a or C d b as a front, i am leaning to C d a as the front though i find it more interesting with the two closer together on the left and then the other leaning out away from the other two :D

what are your thoughts?

and yes it was good to catch up with ya mate :D will have to do it again soon :D

Looking good Jamie!

Glad to see you experimenting with planting angles and the like. The 'front' as is looks a bit too symmetrical for mine. I quite like the look of this one:Image

From memory, Brian Inglis is somewhere in QLD, and I think he's had great success with Clerodendrum as Bonsai.

Good luck, and please keep us posted.

Fly.

Jamie I like the angle that fly has posted, I could see it with one trunk removed as well. Though that could make it like a lot of other trees , you can`t gow it back in a hurry and we see a lot of twin trunks . The best part here Jamie is that it`s you tree so it `s your call, I think both could look good. That's correct Fly it was more a group learning experience, a lovely lady that was in our group had one growing in here yard . Sylvia grew a cutting from that tree and that is where it started for us, I was the first in our group to show one at the QLD society show in 1995. I could track down a photo of that tree if you wanted , our good friend Shannon was also involved in all this at that time. I still have contact with Brian, he moved to Bris and is not doing bonsai anymore. CHEERS ROD .....
