I love the colour of Deshojo Looks healthy too

Looks like you have it in a largish pot which is good. but like your Crab, it needs to be chopped back and regrow the top to generate taper and interest in the trunk line.

Same as the Crab, Grow, Chop back Grow again 'till ware happy with the trunk line and size, and then grow the foliage to shape

Mate, love the colour! I've almost given up on Japanese maples, but I want to try a few of these. Harder to find up here.
I would like to see a pic take a bit further back, jsut see the whole thing. Agree with Ken though, it will need to be chopped back.

Nice tree Grafted? I tried one similar in toowoomba got cold enough but haaated wind/breeze/air movement the graft was well placed and was coming on nicely until someone needed it more than I did . If it is grafted onto a palmatum and the join is good you will have an excellent tree ,plus plenty of grafting practice with the offcuts .Look forward for updates

Ray Nesci Propagates them himself and guarantees they are not

Did not think Deshojo would do any good in QLD

Mine survived and grew toowoomba gets similar coldness to sydney in winter but the summer wind can knock them for six ,I have a trdent here in bundy that is not very happy nowhere near the winter of toowoomba

nice colour on the deshojo but there is no way they will survive here in QLD especially where we are tony, and nath for that matter. they are just to delicate for the hot months we get

its grafted. the chop that was done is only 10 inched above the graft. how close to the graft can i chop before i start frowning...?

the graft is nearly perfect. i'll get some good photos of the graft, and also of the tree from a bit farther back.

I would cut back to the first nodes above the graft. it is quite straight and you have to branches there. I would use the one on the Right side of the tree as the new leader heading back over the Base of the trunk, and the other branch I would use as the first Outside branch. when you the leader is of sufficient height i would repeat the process and get the leader moving again with the other there branch becoming a branch on the outside again

In the final design, you could have some foliage slightly cover the trunk where the graft is to hide it completely from view as long as the first branch is low enough
