[DEAD] Lemon Scented Gum Nonsai

Post by FlyBri »

Gday folks!

Just the other day, a post by Glenda reminded me to drag this project out for a look: it is a number of Corymbia citriodora (formerly Eucalyptus citriodora) which I have twisted together in an attempt to emulate the bases seen on the Red Tingle (E. jacksonii). The large leaf size of the Lemon Scented Gum requires that I grow a rather large specimen, and the recent pics will show that I have a long way to go yet.

Anyway, here's a little bit of the history (I'll be sticking mostly to photos, so feel free to ask questions):

The 'tree' could probably be better developed than it is, but I haven't cared for it as well as I might. It has dried out completely on more than one occasion over the past 2 years, and I suspect that there is too much fine organic matter in the soil mix. Of the dozen or so seedlings I started with, only 8 have survived. Perhaps a repot is in order soon...

Thanks.

Fly.

G,day Mr Fly nice to see some one else using citriodora. Not sure if you remember when you visited, that I had some self sown seedlings that I had decided to experiment with.
Well I have found that the leaves will reduce well with constant pruning of the large leaves you can get them down to a reasonable size even on Shohin.
I have a couple if you wish I will post pics, not masterpieces by any means but nice just the same.

Cheers :) Pup

Hi guys,

I too have a Corymbia citriodora growing (not a bonsai as yet) that I purchased from a nursery about a year ago. It's about 1.5m tall. I've pruned it back a few times but it hasn't shown any signs of back-budding. What's your experience? What will happen if I get impatient and prune it back to bare wood?

Cheers.

G'day Fli

You may not remember me but we locked horns a few years ago. I note you are still into natives. I am pretty much out of bonsai for a number of reasons but have just joined the forum and hope to have some positive input.

best regards

Brian
