[FOR SALE] 2 year old JBP seedlings
I am just interested to know who would be willing to buy two year old JBP seedlings. This is just to find out how many are interested. I do have them though and in excess at the moment, need to move some.
These are from seed and have had the tap root cut as a seedling.
Cheers,
Jarrod

I have two year old JBP seedlings. Most have not been moved from thier original seeding pot. I would love to have a comparison on the growth Jarrod if you can post a pic.
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Re: 2 year old JBP seedlings
Thats good progress for two years old Jarrod. Can you tell me if you cut the tap root in the first year. I cut the tap root on some in the second year and the one I have growing in akadama might be that big if I unwound it
All the others would be smaller than that. Nice work

Re: 2 year old JBP seedlings
One of the early editions of bonsai today as an article on growing black pine from seed and they cut off all the roots a couple of months after the first needles have set and use them as cuttings. This ensures a nice radial root system.

Re: 2 year old JBP seedlings
Hi Brett thats the one except they were growing the pines in small colanders which were then moved into larger colanders so the trees could be moved on with out disturbing the roots. The roots were air pruned by the holes in the colanders. The pines were being fed and watered often.

Re: 2 year old JBP seedlings
I talked about that with this guy and he wasn't keen on that technique. Just no need for that he reckoned If you read this technique the roots are disturbed infrequently but it is potted up yearly.
The root work is done at specific years of growth to maximise refinement without sacrificing too much growth.
Can't argue with the results.
I will update that thread soon.

Re: 2 year old JBP seedlings
Try pinching out the tips a few times during the first year to give lots of low branches. these will help thicken the lower trunk and give choices for branching because these JBPs are buggers to get new branches on once the wood loses the needles.

Re: 2 year old JBP seedlings
Is there a particular timing with tip pinching for seedlings?shibui wrote:Try pinching out the tips a few times during the first year to give lots of low branches. these will help thicken the lower trunk and give choices for branching because these JBPs are buggers to get new branches on once the wood loses the needles.
In particular the time of the year or when healthy? (etc)
Cheers
