i am going to guess its a species of Podocarpus?, the basic growth is similar to what iv looked up....

mate, this is a tough one, to be honest it is hard to tell but i dont think it is podocarpus. but the way my identification has been of late, it probably is

i do have to agree jamie as it is fair different to this P elatus iv had for just over a year...

This one is probably a Persoonia, they do look like podocarpus but are members of the proteaceae family there are twenty two mentioned from the East coast

Only one from W A at this stage. We are still looking but with a common name like snotty gobble who would want to find more

hey mate, i agree Its most probably in the Proteaceae family, but its not a Persoonia longifolia (Snottygobble). nor any on the Persoonia species list so far. (iv only scrached the surface!!! ).

Id love for it to be Persoonia juniperina...

if i keep searching every now and then im bound to find it..... just hoping someone will randomly recognize, and make the job much easier
id particularly like to know if they are like others in this family, and 'deal with' bushfires, my tree has tall tripple trunks from a heavy single base, it is back budding all the way down to the base. >>(ground planting and a simulated bushfire in late 2010 is on the cards) ???

Luke, with the leaves it has & the way it is shooting I would also go for it being a Podocarpus. It is definitely not any of the Persoonia that I know of, wrong bark & growth habit.

Can you get a photo of the bark lower down on the trunk, around where it meets the roots will show the most mature bark.

Just been doing some more research, Podocarpus elatus would be my guess, its natural range is where you collected from.

he growth habit just doesnt seem to be like podocarpus.. im not sure on that..

hey matt, i agree theres a good chance its a species of Podocarpus. But as jamie has said, there are some differences in growth to common types of podo..... im stumped!

Quite a few years ago I purchased a sampling from Dorthory Koreshoffs nursrey, It was call Native Plum Tree. I have looked at your photos and it looks exactly the same. I have know Idea what its botancial name is though. It responds to regular cuttings back in spring and late summer. It does produce a small fruit all though that has not happen since I moved to a colder climate. It does with regular haircuts get quite bushy, it does not take to wiring cause of the thin branchlets.

i dont think anyone knows for sure, what it is!!! i have all major branches trained downwards, will just have to see how it goes!..... i see big chops in the future but not just yet.

plum pine is a common name for one of the podocarpus, generally the native one to australia. the "plum pine" i have seen sold at the nurseries have wider foliage than this one.

it might be recognisable when it flowers, if it flowers!
