These 2 Cedars were collected about 18months to 2 years ago ,cant be sure because they were shockers i never took pics so i don't have a date .I dropped them into 350mm planter bags {they dont absorb heat like plastic pots} with a mixtue of 8mm minus soft red scoria and 8mm minus old aged pine bark ..
They had little or no roots and i didn't expect them to survive to be honest .At the time of collecting i had second thoughts because of the poor quality . The smaller tree is 800mm high and has 8 branches the bigger tree is 1m high and has 11 branches .Repotted into this training pot last winter .Each tree had the uppermost branch wired up as a new leader 12 months ago .The stubs still remain as they are used to anchor the wires for bending the trunks and attaching wires.
Using my Alpineart Hook and Hold method i place shade cloth slings one over each branch and down to a suitable position {be it trunk or lower branch} place another . The attach a strong wire with a simple hook at 1 end an fold tight .Insert the wire into and through the other shade cloth anchor point and simple fold .This can be adjusted simply by unfolding 1 end and lengthening or shortening the wire .leave 50mm spare for this very reason. The shade cloth sling if required can be slid up or down the branch without marking the bark.
With all the branches anchored down i the set about considering all the positions possible for the best looking outcome based on branches , movement and trunk detail .I chose to rotate both trees around 90 degrees for the smaller tree and 180 degrees for the main tree Cheers Alpineart

I can see something amazing with this two, what a clever idea the shade cloth sling method is

Hi Anja , they should progress into something worthwhile but there was a time when i had my doubts. Shade cloth is something i use for a varying purposes . Covering drain holes in pots , making strong breathable slings for trunk/branch bending , making baskets for root over rock or clinging styles , use as baskets for layers , sifting fines from soils , washing soils the list is too numerous .Cheers AlpineAnja wrote:I can see something amazing with this two, what a clever idea the shade cloth sling method is
