[WANTED] Maples + Pines, this weekend
hey guys girls, im looking to get some maple and pine stock this weekend for potensai, does anyone have any up for sale, or now of anywhere that is reasonably priced in the northern rivers area? i have been to red dragon at currumbin already and i thought they where a bit pricy on their stock. any help would be apreciated thanks simon

Simo...Red dragon had some corker tridents last time I was there...what sort of ballpark price was happening?....(I can't remember!)also some good advice regarding radiata's was thrown to me ...If you have a chrissy tree farm nearby,it could be worth a try!

cheers, yeah i currently have a radita that i am working on, it was an old family chrissy tree, i cut it right down to the stump it seems to be still alive but hasnt put any new shoots out after the chop, how do radiaters go as bonsai?

radiata can make very good bonsai, but if you chopped it to a bare stump without having any bud on it somewhere i fear you might have signed its death certificate... i hope not, fingers crossed mate

i have heard they can, aslong as they have a bud below the chop point, that info was from alpine art i beleive. i havent seen it in person myself though..

Hi Simo, Radiata make great bonsai lots of people grow them here in Vic. you have to accept that at certain times of the year the foliage is a little uneven, its hard to achieve a balanced needle length as you can on blacks. For this reason they are not really suited to shohin or smaller trees. I treat mine as you would a juniper and pinch them all the time. Once the bark begins to crack they really thicken out very quickly.
