Grape Vine Styling Options

Post by Krusty »

I have a grape vine that i plan to style into bonsai in the spring and was seeking advice on where i should cut. I would thinking of either cutting one branch off or the other, but am unsure if it might be a bit too tall and whether i should just cut it lower and remove both branches.

hi mate, if it were mine i would get some movement into that lower section of the trunk, it iwll be possible to do just need to do the right process. oterwise i dont think grape would be to well suited to a broom style and the straight section doenst make for an interesting literati either, in my eyes anyways.

i would also leave it in the ground to fatten, get the movement into it and shorten it to start inducing some taper. there was a really nice one posted up not to long ago i cant remember whos it was though.

To get movement in it do i just rap it in rubber and use a bendy tool? Also do you think it is worth air layering the top parts? Is air layering even possible with grape vines?

that will work mate, make sure the binding it tight, a bending clamp is one way to got, the other option is to wrap it, then wire with heavy guage wire and use a bending bar to pu movement in.
