Hi Pascal this one has a bit of age in the bark which is very special, thats whats so great about ash the cracked bark is beautiful.

I have quite a few of these trees that I collected last year rootpruned very hard and planted back in the ground, in a months time they will be dug up for further root work. I'll post some pics for you to have a look at then.
Did you collect this one ? it takes a few years for the bark to get that patina.

....the reason of old bark on young trees ?
They are young, but with an interesting bark!!!
I try to find the reason of this bark. ..I'm trying moss on trunk, but with no similar result.
Recently, i have found some young trees damaged by............... hornet !...and it seems that is an answer....

we don't have hornets here. I have found if I grow them very strongly in the ground then cut them really hard and repeat that process a couple of times the bark will begin to crack but the cracking is quite coarse, but your tree has that fine cracking which only comes with age.

Fraxinus are wonderful trees to work with - lots of regrowth, easy leaf reduction, hardy and lots of yamadori F. excelsior available! :tu:
