Diatomite Avaliable for Newcastle/Hunter Dwellers

Post by Ryan1979b »

Hey all,

I have just been speaking with a very helpful guy that Supplies Maidenwell Diatomite For what I thought was a reasonable price considering I couldn't find it anywhere. I ordered a 2-7mm 40lt bag and including delivery it was $36.

I know its not the cheapest, but I thought it was pretty good price considering the availability around this area.

Anyway the company details are as follows:

Earthly Worm Works
Murwillumbah NSW 2484

Tel. (02) 6679 3475
Mobile: 0417703627
http://www.earthlyworms.com.au

I spoke with Davis and he was very helpful.

Hope this helps others out.

Cheers

Hi Ryan,

Sorry to say but I think you're getting ripped off! You should be able to get it a lot cheaper up you way as it comes from QLD. I do sell it here at the nursery for $29. It cost me $22 so I hardly make any on it. I would go back and ask for a better deal!!

God luck,

Chris

I got few quotes from Queensland companies and the delivery costs were a lot higher as I'm not buying in bulk. It was going to cost me $49 per 40lt bag from QLD (incl delivery), so I was happy with $36, with a piece of mind that I didn't have to organize the freight. I was hopping there would be someone more local so I didn't have to Pay for delivery.

If I was ripped off...Live & Learn I guess.

At least my trees will be happy ;)

Cheers

Thanks Chris,

Will check these guys out. If the delivery cost are close then it might be worth while as the drive would be costly for me as they are still about 2 hour drive from my place.

Just to Clarify, the 40lt bag was $20.50 and delivery was $15.50. Its actually getting to the source of the product or getting it to me either by Delivery of Personal fuel cost & time that's the problem.

I can guarantee I wasn't going to Pay $49 for a bag, that's for sure ;)

Cheers

I would have to dis-agree. A "Rip off" is all in the eye of the beholder. If someone was to offer me a 40lt bag diatomite right now for that price, if would buy it in a snap.
In my area, there are no suppliers that I can walk into, I would pay $45 considering this.

If he is not going through it like hot bread, then a once off payment of $36 is not too bad. IMHO :)
Regards, Mitchell.

Ken,

That sounds like a pretty good deal, i on occasion head down Cambelltown way to see friends so I might have to make a side trip & by some. Unfortunately I wont be down that way before I start repotting this season.
