[SELL] Japanese pots circa 1900's. 2 pots

hey guys,

two pots up for sale, one is a lovely green glaze and the other is a white glaze with a crackle in it. the white one does not have a drainage hole so i dont know if it was ment to hold bonsai or not.

When I look at the crackle glaze pots I consider that they appear to resemble foshan pots.

When I was last in Japan I bought a pot just like the one in the last pic. It is as yours is, a Japanese pot.

It gets confusing as Japanese potters greatly admire Chinese pots and do their inscrutable best to imitate them. Very nice.

The white crackle is an extremely attractive pot. We all know that drainage holes are a necessity and I venture to suggest that they can be made using a suitable sized masonry drill. Not, I hasten to add, with a hammer/percussion drive. The secret is to bed the pot firmly down into fine sand which will support it evenly when moderate pressure is applied. Don't be in a hurry. It is worth while to take time over this operation and a pilot hole made with a comparatively small diameter drill bit first is a good way forward. Love the pot and the price is very reasonable. =Don.

hey jamie, now i see what you mea about having bought a similar pot, it looks very very much like my chinese one, very nice though! i love the little green one and i am interested in buying, however i havnt got the cash right now, when i do i will PM you and see if it's still up for grabs! cheers mate
