Hey all,
I was offered this mature shrub by my brother-in-law, but don't know what it is or if it would suit as bonsai stock, please help identify.
What is it and can it be used?

I would imagine there is a reasonable sized trunk within the depths of that foliage.

I reckon its a Tea tree, which one i have no idea, i knw there is many many many different varieties.
i dont think it is westringia john, and i dont think it is rosemary either.
baekea could definately be a possibilty, looking at the pic again I would lean to baekea
and yes it can definately be used, small leaves, it gets a woody trunk, it shows characteristics of what you would want in a bonsai, dig it up!!

hi mate,
thats a nice little base, the only thing i would be concerned with is that big long root, i will be interested to see if the nebari is good or not

It is a Baeckia the fifth one along in the header pics is one make nice Bonsai and it is a native.
