Some advice and idea on this one would be great.

Mate, not worth the effort. Na, really wouldn't worry about the plant. Really, I am serious here, really truelly.

Now, with that out of the way, I think your idea of a twin trunk is a goodie. If I knew how to do it I'd do one of them virt things for you, but I dont so ........ on the bigger trunk, cut everything off from the third left hand branch (the one that points upward a bit and then cut everything off below that branch (which is now the apex -sorry) On the second "trunk" just cut everything off from the junction of all those finer branches, except the one that carries the trunk line on. Clear as mud hey That gives you a not to bad chassis on which to build a great tree. Good luck with it and thanks for allowing me this bit of fun.

Did I tell you I really admire Jamie - he can do virts real good.

I did a quick virt for you showing where I would possibly cut back to, and maybe the eventual outline of the resultant tree

Of course, Real life might interfere with this plan so only a guide as to a possible way to go

Just did some pruning with my new first bonsai tools,
wats your opinion?
i have left some braches on that dont look right but im just seeing where it will back bud.

looks great mate. It should shoot away everywhere now. What you could do to help the backbudding is get an old toothbrush and a bit of water and give the branches a good scrubbing to really clean them up. Don't go overboard but you can scrub them back until a little green starts to show. Then when you water make sure to water the top of the plant and not just the soil.

Then when it recovers you should have heaps of shoots to start to style with

I need to repot it, but not sure what mix to use, does it need anything different the just normal bonsai mix, i just make my own mix?

Use whatever mix you usually do. So long as good free draining will be fine.
Don't take much root off this time of year tho,

I would select the shoots you wish to develop in the final tree now, and remove the ones you do not want. Apply wire loosely to point them in the right direction

very good Pat, let it go for now, repot later in winter. May Azaleas are doing great aswell.
Do me a favour and bend the end of the wire back on itself, for looks and control.
