Any thing in a bonsai pot that gets a second look and a wow is a great bonsai (a newbee's definition)
Can you tell me regarding the azalia - did you plan it from birth or was it thrust upon you due to other circumstances.
Really enjoy looking at the full gamit of members work.

It was a cutting I took from a now defunct larger tree.

Hello Pup,( also known as Grumpy Old Man no 1 or 2 ), yes Rukizon is the name used throughout the entire Western World and although the Japanese name is Kazan there is another large flowered variety also called Kazan, so it is much better for us all to stick with Rukizon. Rukizon is a sport of Osakazuki - famous old variety.
I don't think size of flower matters at all as you can enjoy the flowers at this time of year and then for the rest of the year it is simply a bonsai, style being largely influenced by vigour and leaf size. Sometimes Rukizon needs the right microclimate and food to flower well. Lovely subject though.

Congrats to Ausbonsai,

Arthur/Akaruhi

Hi Pup , nice little Bonsai .I can't say i would have the patience for tiny, mini or mame but they are growing on me .I do have some nice little pots i purchased years ago that i should use .With a little bit more inspiration i may just get motivated enough to pop a plant in them .Cheers Alpine

What did you mean by this Arthur? Extra sun? Extra fert? My Rukizon have always been very shy to flower.

Thanks,

neal.

Yes,

Rukizon is Kazan in Japan only but I suggest we all stick to Rukizon because there are 2 called Kazan in Japan and one is large flowered. The entire western world uses Rukizon so let's leave it as is.

Rukizon is a sport of Osakazuki,

Arthur
