Juniper Raft

Post by Craig »

Hi all, Im about to start working this juniper that i came across recently, so i thought i'd do a progression of it. What inspired me is the overall outline of the canopy, and being a raft, i couldn't resist the challenge. The height is about 280mm, it's 630mm wide, and about 400mm deep, in total there are 9 trunks, 5 live and 4 dead. The roots are totally matted and are going to take alot of sorting out :x . I've already started to strip the dead bark from the trunks and cleaning all the dead branches/ foliage out. will keep you posted...feel free to comment and sorry about the poor quality pics.. :( Craig.

An interesting looking tree I have to say, those trunks look like they've been on the 'wild side' . Can't wait to see how your going to style this one.

Hi all, I've cleaned the tree up a bit and revealed the dead trunks. Now it'll be easier to see where to go next :D Craig

Very nice Craig. I'm glad that you have found an odd number of trunks alive. The dead remnants have split up the image attractively. You're going to enjoy having this raft. A good pot is going to cost you next year.

Hi all, I finally made the decision to repot this raft. the new pot is 480mm wide, 290mm and 40mm deep.I've cleaned up the matted roots the best i can for this repot. Now it's repotted it stands 360mm high (including pot), 720mm wide and about 420mm deep. I haven't wired or anything yet, that'll come when it recovers..Comments welcomed :) Thanks Craig

Hi Craig, it is starting to look good. I would consider going for a more compact look and maybe lose the long branch. It looks a little unbalanced with it :imo:
