Ficus Graft :)

Just had a rush of blood and decided to have some fun styling my ficus.

There was a dead spot on one side so i was going to sweep a branch over to the other side and it looked crap so i cut a branch off and grafted it on the other side.
Initial Idea

I cut a wedge in the trunk, made a V with the branch, put a bit of water there and tied it with grafting tape and wire, miss anything?

Sticking the graft in a plastic bag will increase humidity of the graft and further the chances of success. Don't seal the bag, but allow some movement of air around the graft.

Good luck with it, but it it doesn't take, try a thread graft - dead easy with figs.

Alright thanks mate, i will look into it, If the odds are okay, i will cut this branch in half and try again or go for a thread like you suggested

The leaves have turned brown and the branch i had grafted is also brown and has wrinkles, started to go well in the overcast conditions, then we had a day of sun and it must have cooked it :/

Couple other figs around the place, should i thread graft same species or will a close match of bark of other species do the job?

edit: took out the graft and there were white ants in the wet wood :/ took it out, cleaned up the black wood and sealed with chapstick (Y)

Rchoo3, just wait till a new shoot appears where you want it mate, This isn't woodwork class , you can't just cut a branch off and glue it on somewhere else. Theres alot more to it than that, keep and and trying, just not on this tree because it's not really nessesary good luck Rch ---Craig

Its a fig, and as such, cut it back and you will probably get something where you want it

If you wan to graft, do an approach graft rather than severing the donor branch ( scion).
