Collected honeysuckle

Post by Tinmonkey »

This is a honey suckle I collected from my backyard about a month ago.
It was starting to go crazy shooting everywhere and needing trimming every two or three days.
I figured it was healthy enough for me to do some work on.
So out came the tools

And finally potted up.
Im hoping to acheive a broom style with this one it shoots readily and grows very quickly so I should be able to see some progress pretty soon

I love the gnarled trunk, make sure you dont lose it under a dense cover of foliage.
Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.

This is a good specimen you have found and has plenty of character to start with. The start to a good tree :D

Hi Tinmonkey , Huneysuckle or Lonicera " Fragrantissima"? is a difficult specimen to work with .I have numerous specimens in and on different mediums and differing styles , they require constant pinching back of the new growth . Due to this trimming i have been unable to produce a reasonable canopy in 2 years and as yet no flowers , Mine are more like a bush than a broom , being a creeper they produce a large amount of roots in a season , they drink copious amounts of water also .Good luck with your plan , i look forward to seeing an outcome .Cheers Alpineart

I was given a pretty little 3 forest of honeysuckle by my late grandmother. Two died as as the third looked to head the same way I gave it to Ted P for some professional hospital time. It came back marginly better but still died soon after :( . I have since replaced it with a small seedling, which whilst still being alive is by far the most unwell awful looking thing to have in a pot. Even an image of would probably crash this forum :palm: .

Honeysuckle = hard (IMO (or possibly in my hands))

On alpines last post I'm going to try a lot more wogga.
