Nicholii 3 months on

Post by PeterH »

The first picture is from another thread just after re-potting and the tree was stressed not only from that but also from winter.

The 2nd picture is from today. When the new branch and foliage is set I will take a picture of the whole tree in about a month.

It sure does look healthy now Peter. Can't wait for your next instalment. Will we be seeing this one at the Canberra Native show in March?

How do you control the vigour? I am starting to loose a couple of lower branches in one of my Eucs and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it. I've tries defoliating the top and leaving the bottom, trimming hard and even some singing with fire. Any tips mate?

Regards,
Steven

Love the trunkline. Very elegant looking tree.

Good work.

(Don't know how you keep the tree watered in that small pot!)

If I do have trees in the show, this will probably be one of them ( If I can get it there because of transport problems due to its size)

I control the vigor by pinching back the new extending growth and I then ( about now ) go through the foliage and tidying up by thinning out, keeping the majority of the new growth.

I loose branches occasionally in all my Eucs. I usually wire something in its place or rely on new growth to take its place which generally only happens once a year. This tree has lost many branches over its time but a redesign generally fills that hole.

One thing I noticed on my Brittle Gum this year that one of the major branches died back and it seems to of originated from a cut. I now cut branches off leaving about 10mm and the I will remove that in 12 months.

When I photograph it latter I will try to submit it to the 360 section.
