Nursery closing sale

Post by Gerard »

I picked up this plant today from a closing down sale at the local nursery.

The label is half missing (.......urnum) I believe it is a viburnum and after some looking on the net my best guess is viburnum farreri (does that mean fast and red?)

Has anybody grown these, how do they go as bonsai?

Any pics?

I like the small red berries and foliage colour and suspect this species changes a lot through the seasons.

Looks like it has some good potential there.
Didn't you say you had not bought a plant in over 28 days just recently?
Time to go to rehab

The Japanese grow viburnum as bonsai they mostly use a species call dilatatum. I think your plant is a plicatum hybrid. Just remember they are a cool climate shrub so will require protection from the hot sun. It should flower white in the spring and will most probably be a lace cap.
