Will I cut this branch off ??

Post by bonsaiboy50 »

I defoliated this fig today and am very tempted to cut off the lower right hand branch. I do not think it does much for the tree but have held off doing anything with it for a few years to see how the tree developed. I am for cutting it off but thought I would get a few more opinions before the big chop. So let me know , chop or not to chop that is the question :lost: :lost: :?: :?:

Cut off the lowest left hand on the smaller trunk and shorten back the branch above the one you want to cut; leave that branch as is.

Sort out the apex,

This is when a sketch can be handy,

It changed my mind, I hope it makes the decision easier.

I agree, leave it on but change the planting angle to the left more when you repot.

Nice fig. I would not take that branch off. I would shorten the branch above it back to the first secondary branch. I would also bring the first right branch further forward.
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Yep lose it. It is too much out of charachter with the rest of the branches and if you raise it like the others it will clash with the one above ( be too close) and look like a bar to the one on the left

Nice tree :-)

ps
What is the thick branch sticking straight up at the apex? That looks quite weird and out of place to me

hey bonsaiboy

Cool fig.
If you have the time, I'd love to see an update picture on your fig. I got to the end of the thread, and needed more :D.

thanks, Woody
