Since it is in flower, I thought I would post it.
I would like a little more movement in the trunk and a thicker base (hence the small shoot being held down by the cutters.
I am pinching the branches every now and then for branching. I may have to learn wiring properly for this one but we will see.

Now would be a good time to get some movement into the trunk. It will be interesting to see its progression. Flowering literati are quite prevalent in Kokofu but they are generally prunus Mume. It should be a very graceful Literati.

When you say now is a good time, do you mean it is a good time to shape this species?
I want to keep the little tree off to the side for a while as long as it works for me, it was a sucker that popped up. I trimmed off a mini forrest of them before the photo.
I love literati but never thought of using a crepe, with a few more years growth its going to be great.
Dont thicken the base too much, it should all flow together, literai are like supermodels... tall & skinny is beautiful. They must still convey age regardless of there slender waist.

I was referring to trunk movement. If you want to create movement it would be better to Raffia and bend now before it becomes inflexible. I have not worked much with these little trees but if you can develop some striking movement it will be a unique little tree

Be sure to wrap it well and be very careful bending. Once they harden off, they become brittle as anything.
Defilitely needs more movement in the trunk

In terms of uniqueness, (if there is such a word? no red lines or funny noises from the keyboard so it must exist) this tree went through death row and came out the other side as a rehabilitated citizen of the shelf. It was purchased as a bulk lot of bargains years back and when my daughter came along it suffered severe neglect through lack of water and wrong aspect but it seems as though these factors have resulted in something good. It struck me in spring last year so I started paying it attention.
I have not tested the trunk out for flex but I think it will work out.
I will start bending the trunk today if I am allowed
