Ficus sycomorus slow progression.

This Ficus germinated right next to the plastic of the greenhouse inside the greenhouse. In that time I was growing orchids and other stuff(grafting hibiscus and Coleus among others). I t was a nuisance. I had to cut it back regulary through the years, I think it was there for about 4 years.

Ficus Sycomorus grow as a very big tree with very big leaves in areas with a low water table but its leaves reduce very well. Its fruits are formed on permanent modified branches which grow longer each year. April 2009 I opened the root area and cut of most of the thick roots and covered it again with compost. August 2009 I dug it up without much trouble.

The tree grew slowly because I did not notice that it did not get enough water in my new hothouse. This is the tree today after some further chopping in 2010:

Any advice one styling and other comments welcome.

This is the species grown by Charles Ceronio as a root over rock. Here you can see the leaves reduce nicely.

Coming along nicely. I am growing a few of the sycomorus from small plants and cuttings and do find that they seem to grow a bit slowly, at least indoors. They do seem to like moisture.
Keep us posted on how yours progresses.

This tree should have progressed much more. I have lost at least a years growth by not taking good care of it. I have removed the tree from the hot house and placed it against a warm wall in full sun. I have also added some new compost and granular fertilizer Strangely these trees growing in nature here shed their leaves now(they look like deciduous trees in winter) and will bud out again before winter is here - but I am not planning on doing anything drastic to the tree now but just letting it grow.
