Post by graemem »

My juniper spent a little too long in the sun recently and the nice green leaves have turned a brown colour.
Help.......what do i do now or have i permanently damaged it.

hi graemem
my suggestion would be move to shady area and water it and keep it watered it might only be sunburnt
and keeping it watered will give back the moisture it has lost but i have lost several due to sunburn and
they not recovered so just becareful
cheers dean :flag:

Hi graemem,
Junipers do not suffer sunburn so I doubt that your problem is excessive sun exposure, it is more likely a lack of water that has caused the decline in your tree. Having said that, wter the tree well initially by immersion, but go easy on the water while the tree is recovering, keep the soil just damp and keep the tree out of the wind in a semi shaded location. No feed untill it begins growing again, then only weak doses of fertiliser.

Hope it recovers for you.

Cheers,
Mojo

hi there graeman,

i tend to agree with mojo, i have a few junipers myself, you can put junis in full sun no problem, mine are and they are green as green can be, if they tend to go brown dont panic as i was once told the brown drop off due to new growth, also to prevent this, get the watering aspect correct, as junipers dont like to be dry, in saying that, they dont like to be wet either. Moist is the way to go with them. Also as mojo said do not fertilize to early and dont pinch back untill you can see good healthy growth.
