500 year old candlebark getting pruned.

Post by bodhidharma »

This 500 year old Candlebark is in my backyard and pruning it is a necessity, otherwise it drops branches which would hit my house,or worse, kill someone. I have been tempted to cut it up for firewood but who am i to kill off a 500 year old tree that has lived through droughts, bush fires and the invasion of man.

tell me are you going to bonsai the tree aswell   but on a serious note could you try doing a few plantings to try to get roots and see if it would be good bonsai
cheers dean :flag:
PS or do a airlayer while the gentalman is up the tree
then pass him the wire to wire the branches

G'day Dean, I have tried this species to no avail ,as yet. I have hundreds on my property and can collect them quite easily. Unfortunately as soon as i bareroot them they die. I have not worked it out as yet.

Greetings,
Maybe you need to cut the root under water.

Hey Bodhi,

I have found many natives will drop dead if bare rooted, if you can keep even a small amount of soil on the roots you should be fine.
