Definatly Casuarina. Most probably casuarina torulosa. Maybe not as valuable as scotts pine but still great material
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.
thanks guys
i just googled it and yes it is a native. from noosa and a [ casuarina torulosa] one thing i hate is being told the wrong info on plants when buying from a reputible nursury so maybe i can enter it in the compitition now i got a aussie native
cheers dean

I would chop of just above the first branch and work from there
Here is a little one I mucked around with today as an idea.

help help help help
cheers dean
No problem, style it how you would any tree, being a native doesnt really make any difference... especially as its a Casuarina.
If it were mine i would cut it off just above the first branch & make that my new leader & grow on again from there. The bark on these forms really quickly on the lower trunk but will take a fair while (from what i have been told) to get going on the branches. I have one I am growing on here viewtopic.php?f=62&t=7332&hilit=allocasuarina, now I have linked it I think i should update as it got a good shellacking after those pics taken, its just starting to come away again.

thanks bretts that gives me a idea but do they back grow for more branches down on the fatter part of trunk or will that be forever naked
and matta thankyou too for comments well recieved much appriciated so i was thinking windswept but maybe not now i will try to get better pictures
tommorrow if it isnt raining
cheers dean
That first left branch on mine was not there when I chopped the tree back last spring. I have been waiting all season for it to fatten and finaly it was time to chop it back today.
So yes casuarina back bud well
I would chop at first branch and also trim the foliage back by at least a half on what is left and you should get some new growth lower to work with. Not sure it will be in time for the Ausbonsai native comp though sorry
