[WANTED] Shinus molle

Post by Andew09 »

Hi guys,

I'm on the hunt for a decent Schinus molle stock for bonsai. Has anyone seen or heard of anything floating around that may be worth looking at. Happy to spend some decent :2c: on something if the right thing comes up so any help would be very much appreciated.

gday i never heard of that tree but with 2 seconds of research i got this
Peruvian Pepper (Schinus molle, also known as American pepper, Peruvian peppertree, escobilla, false pepper, molle del Peru, pepper tree,[2] peppercorn tree, Californian pepper tree, pirul and Peruvian mastic.[3]) is an evergreen tree that grows to 15 meters (50 feet). It is native to the Peruvian Andes. The bright pink fruits of Schinus molle are often sold as "pink peppercorns" although S. molle is unrelated to true pepper (Piper nigrum).

i will see if we can get it around here
cheers dean

Has anyone tried root cuttings for these trees, why I ask is at the moment I am pruning back about 30 of these trees and I love the shape of the trunks and the branches. I would love to bonsai one of these. I have read that you can propagate them by softwood cuttings but my thinking was that they sucker so much why wouldn't they grow from root cuttings.

Here is one I am currently working on, I found it bulldozed at a roadside stop. It was still there two weeks later so took it home and worked on it.
