It also makes me think, why? Up, down, left, right, energy wasted? Most likely sunlight chasing.

Skimmed the backside flat, now to chase the line for the sapling.
Could do it in a few minutes with my dremel, but hand tools I prefer. (Edit- Just realised I sound a lot like Yoda, I should really stop doing that. )

what are you going to put in there?
I have really tall thin Casuarinas that might be great for somethin like this. I will be watching to see what eventuates
