[SOLVED]Hawthorn ID (pictures)

Could anyone ID this Hawthorn please,

Upon visual, the berries are much larger than the common Hawthorn,
The leaves are much rounder and less defined,

Also it is the middle of Autumn and the tree is holding onto still green leaves and all the fruit, in this area the common hawthorn has started to loose all leaves and has droped all fruit.
Well i'm hoping it is a hawthorn

P.S. If you know how to propergate this tree, what is the best method,
By seed, what method
By cutting
Or just air layer.

Well, I see no thorn. It looks like a crabapple to me.
Nice fruits though

Looks like good old common Crataegus Monogyna to me. You would have to see the flowers as it could be Pauls Scarlett. Because of the amount of rain last winter the trees are holding their fruits better and are slightly larger. The trees on our property still have their fruits. The only difference i can see is that on common Hawthorn the fruits bunch together more, these are separate so could be a Scarlet. Definitely not mexicana

Try crataegus mexicana the mexican hawthorn which is semi-evergreen and holds its fruit well into winter.

Kvan here is a couple of crab apple pics, this tree is growing next to the hawthorn the fruit are twice as big as the hawthorn.

O.K now that i have seen a leaf size comparison i think Craig is right.. Mexicana.. Although my Mexicana has larger fruit but same size leaves as yours. The thorns are also correct in that there are not as many but are LARGE.

Thanks MIck for the pics. They have thorns all right The best method for propagation would be airlayering. If it is scarlet variety, Please air-lay an extra branch for me. I'm happy to pay for all the cost involved.

Hey Kvan,
I have no idea of the colors in the flower, but this Hawthorn has beautiful leaves and large berries. Very nice. I will let you know of the color when it happens.

Mick, i was talking to my Bonsai man on Sunday , he is about to start trying some grafting of Mexicana onto stronger stock. i cant remember which Crataegus, stock he was going to use but im pretty sure he said he's tried other methods (no layers) with no success,. Ill try find out more for you this weekend

Hi Craig, since mexicana is a species I would have thought the best way to grow it is from seed, these trees used to be quite commonly used but is another on a long list of plants that has fallen from favour, the lack of diversity in the nursery industry is very sad.

Craig, i believe he's tried from seed with no success, thats why he needs to resort to grafting . i'm not full bottle on the subject, but will endevour to find out
