Autumn for a couple of Swampies..Taxodium Distichum

Post by bodhidharma »

A couple of Swamp Cypress's in their Autumn coats. The copper colour is beautiful. The first one has been a been a long term project and has always been in a training box of my design. It will take a few more years for the second part of the trunk to blend and then i can get on with the apex. The second tree is a more slender silhouette and needs more development on its branches but i think both are progressing nicely. I thought i would throw in the Elm, just because

Great colour Diederik and lovely base on them too.
I really like your training box also! Dis you use any glue or screws or is it just those wedges holding it together? What timber is it?

Steven

AHH, thought somebody might hit on the training box. No glue and only a couple of stainless nails to hold the beading inside. the base drops straight in and sits there. It knocks apart and totally disassembles so makes for an easily removable tree for root pruning. If i get enough response i can do a tutorial on how to make them.

Response, response, response, response, response and response.

Is that enough or do you want more?

Oh, alright then, here's a few more responses for you.

Response, response, response, response and just one more, response, response, response. OK I lied.

Go on, do it, you know you want to.

By the way, I wheely like that #1 tree as well mate. A different approach to the old Swampy than the norm.

Must've been a good holiday Bodhi :tu:
I'm quite sure I can see how the sides fit together but the base is what I'm after. Do you drill holes for drainage or are the joins between the pieces enough? And could you use a steel mesh for extra drainage? would it be worth it...

Thanks again
