[SOLVED]I.D please? Purple flowers.

I was wondering if anyone knew what tree/bush this flower belongs to. I found it in heatherdale, vic, on a tree/large bush that was completely covered in them. I didn't manage to snap a pic of the tree, but it was almost like a willow with it's long tendril type branches.

Tree Dahlia???? hard to have a guess just from the flower..

It is a tree dahlia. They are a very tall type of dahlia that is flowering now

They propagate very easily from cuttings, you just need to bury a section of the trunk with 2 nodes and plant it horizontally . There are a number of different colours around.

Nodes - The bumps between sections where the leaves sprout from. Just get a piece of stem, you will see that it has bumps or sections between leaves on it. Shoots and roots will grow from those bumps/ leaf bases.
If you want to grow it from a tuber, make sure you have the growing point attached to the tuber as they don't have 'eyes' like potatoes.

Its quite hard work digging up dahlia imperialis tubers as they are big and deep, much easier to put in cuttings, The stems die down every year so its no drama getting pieces from people. The stems are hollow between the nodes so its important to bury a section with 2 nodes.
