Severe/Extreme FROST

Dear Canberran's, and those who live close by!

The BOM is predicting a severe frost tomorrow morning - 7th June 2011.

Protect your tropical bonsai, and any tree that may be vulnerable to dieback when frozen!

My sensitive trees are going in the shed with the column heater on.

Leigh ive cheched it out heading my way too, the hothouse heater will be on and maybe give my elms undercover abit.

All my sensitive trees are now tucked away ! They will come back out for sunshine in the morning!

Not quite so cold here in the Victorian hills but the figs are always in the poly house - no heater but no problems in 10 years or more. Fingers always crossed in winter though. The rest have to take their chances outside.

As it turned out, it was a bit of a fizzer. The wind came up overnight and kept the frost at bay. Today is very cold with icy winds.

Oh goodie,

Tomorrows forecast for Canberra is from -4 degrees up to a tropical + 8 degrees.

Looking forward to comimg up to Bonsai By the harbour this weekend; although it is forecast to be wet in Sydney.

Grant its snowing in the hills behind my house atm and a nice 2 here at present. frost was heavy here last night but not as bad as i thought. i think alpine might be coping it in mytleford

Hi all,

Two weeks ago on Sat 30th July the Max/Min thermometer at the NBPCA registered minus 9 degrees overnight.

A few days later the maximum registered was 21 degrees plus.

Thats a massive range of 30 degrees.

Only one tree has shown any signs of damage from the severe minus 9 and that was some relatively soft growth on the tips of the Callistemon. It has probably lost a few flowers buds but otherwise powering on strongly.

Hopefully thats the worst for the year.

We have had our cold spell early this winter and nothing under 5C for about a month now.
All my Elms and Tridents are just about out in full leaf now.
Oaks still no sign yet.
Hope we have finished for the cold this year
