I am currently reading.

The life and works of Dan Robinson - Bonsai Pioneer

A beautiful book which gets right to the heart of "naturalistic style",trees which show little indication of human hands.

Naturalistic style does not mean - let the tree decide (because I do not have any ideas)
It means to avoid the manicured appearance we often see. (do the work but don't make it obvious)

The book is well worth a read. The first part (the life of Dan Robinson) was a bit long for my liking but his works speak for themselves.

The book will be available in the BSV library very soon but only one copy.

We had a copy at the last BSV committee meeting when we decided to purchase one for the club library.
Three of the committee wanted a copy for themselves so I purchased 4 copies.

I would like to share this link of Dans latest exhibition at the Pacific Rim in Washington. When one begins to understand and appreciate this mans work you have no choice but to question all that is Bonsai. Which in my view is healthy to constantly re evaluate. I was once a non believer in his work, the book has gone a long way to waking my sense's to Dan. This philosophy / styling wont work on all material IMO nor Dans i would think. He is heavily into aged material. Nor do i think it is the do all end all. How ever a great education and understanding to run along side what we already know and have. Victrina Ridgeway's photography on pg. 3 of this link does true justice to the cause!

With out a doubt, a book that you will read at least 3 times in row if it is on your shelf (or is that just me ) and go back to again and again. The Information in this book is crucial to anyone who is dead serious about Bonsai IMO. The quality is second to none!!! Large book and photos, hard cover. Possibly one of the most thought provoking collections in the world!!!.
