lime sulphure

hey everyone, whats your experiences with using lime sulphure on and around your plants? i watered my plats with a very dilute salution of 10mil to the litre, yesterday, does is get rid of anything besides fungi? does it have any bad side effects? thanks simon

I used lime sulphure recently and read about how to apply . I was under the impression that your not supposed
to get it on the soil ? I reckon you should flush with water .

Lime sulphur is fine, it gets rid of fungi and scale. If you get it on the soil it is not a problem. Won't hurt any tree.

The real consideration is how strong.
Lime sulphur used dilute as an insecticide does not harm the soil.
Lime sulphur at full strength as used on dead wood can harm the soil so be careful.

I was trying to refresh my memory on the dilution rate yesterday. I ended up settling on 40ml per litre for my out of leaf Deciduous. I would use it more diluted on my pines maybe 30ml per litre. What does everyone else use it at?

I havent actually had to use it as a fungicide. havent had a real insect problem ever so i guess I am lucky there. I have killed a juniper quickly by spilling it un diluted onto the soil though, I flushed it out and actually even sat it in a water bath for a while. didnt help. oh well.

I have heard the when using lime sulphur on bare trees it can "stain" the trunk somewhat, I think it is the indonesians that actually spray there big fig trunks with it to give them a nice white appearance. it will stain the bark but the dilution shouldnt hurt it at all

Lime sulphur at 30 to 50 ml will be fine, you can use as a regular spray in Spring, Summer and Autumn at a rate of 10 to 20 ml. Helps control rust, powdery mildew and two spotted mite this way. Use it on your fruit trees to control Leaf curl, Hole Shot, Freckle and Rust at the higher rate at bud movement ( swelling of the buds)
