If it is not Seiju then I would say corky bark

First thought with the other is that it was box eldar maple. But is a little tricky if not a acer.
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

I was gonna say corky bark elm aswell. if not possibly a hokkaido, maybe nesci strong variety? the bark doesnt look corky enough for the strong variety though.

tree b I am thinking a variety of Birch maybe?
