Wind blows my little pots off...

Post by daiviet_nguyen »

I have only a few small cascade pots, and strong winds keep blowing them off the stands.

I used to use two bricks of keep a pot in place, but just this month, I suddenly got a bit clever (:imo:), I put the bonsai pot in the middle of a bigger plastic pot, then filled the empty space with pebbles. Each is now a least 2kg in weight.

It easy to move them around, the bonsai pots are clean and most importantly there is no hinder to the drainage.

Cheers.

Occy straps do a good job as well, for other styles, especially Bunjingii. They are cheap too so you can replace them.

This winter we had a few days of really high winds and the result was three trees down and two pots smashed. Occy straps may solve this for me - thanks Pup.

When you repot the trees, Leave a long wire tail hanging out the drainage hole.
When you pot the tree on a bench, Twist the wire round a nail or other suitable anchor

I have seen this done, but I have seen the tree and pot hanging down, as with all things even the straps it depends on the positition of the tie.

True Pup, but at least tye wont hit the ground and smash :o

No real guaranteed way of protecting tall pots, unless they are inside another but thenm they look pretty ordinary :lost:

Make a timber stand with a hole the shape of your pot a little larger than the base of the pot, so the pot fits in about 1/3 up.
I don't have one, just thought of it, this will give a larger base area or you could screw it down.
I know I am a genius like those kids on the tacos adds.
