hey guys, just new to bonsai's and have a fig that i want to try air layer. question is can you air-layer any type of tree or only specific types?

Pretty much Most trees will airlayer sucessfully. mostly the only exceptions are rarel;y used for bonsai anyway.
Figs are deasd easy to do and will have roots in a month usually

ok nice, i was thinking of cutting away bark, brush on root fert, add potting mix and moss, glad wrap/ cut plant pot, wrap in alfoil and leave. questions i have is 1. do i need to keep media wet? 2. what's a good mix for the media?
p.s this is morton bay fig, over a meter tall and healthy. will post pic this weekend.

I was at a nursery and someone was showing me their M.B figs that had been layered 2 weeks ago and some roots are already breaking the bags.
