Japanese red pine info wanted

Post by Hornet »

a few questions regarding JRP.

What are they like as bonsai? From what i gather they seem to be less desireable then JBP, is that true?
Do they propagate from cuttings at all? Grabbed a few today and would love to give them a shot.
Whats their natural growth form? The one i found today was only maybe 2m tall and a bushy, multi trunked shrub compared to the straight single trunked pines i'm used to.

Gday Hornet
In south east Queensland if you want a japanese pine then i would recommend a black pine. Japanese red pines seem to struggle with owe climate up here. You will get one to grow but it will never be as strong as a black pine. Tess at Bonsai Northside has a couple so for some local knowledge you should speak to here.
