Help on a Wrightia Stump

Post by bingregory »

Hi guys,

I need some help with a large Wrightia stump I have. I dug it, hacked it back and potted it a few months ago, and it is growing well enough. I like the base, but as you can see, there's a nasty fork and the three branches that come out from there are all pretty unappealing. The right branch from the front view has significant reverse taper, the middle one just shoots straight up, and the left one is the little stub not far above the fork. My question is, does anybody see a way to turn any of those three branches into something good, or am I better off cutting back to the single trunk? From what little I know, Wrightia is pretty tough and heals cuts well, so I think the tree could survive some drastic carving of the branches if need be. Any thoughts? If the three branches need to go, how high on the main trunk would you chop? I'm totally new to all this so any and all comments greatly appreciated! Thanks.
