A little Birthday present to myself

Post by deepeetee »

Hi All,

Here is something that i worked on over the weekend, with some help from my teacher/ Sensai/ master :worship:

We have some differing ideas as to where this Juniper should go... but i got most of my way (he probably allowed it so he could prove me wrong)

I am leaning toward removing all of the foliage and creating jins from all branches below the top third. The jins will be reduced in size from the one i have already created (my first attempt, ran out of day light). The last picture is what i would like to achieve with the apex. I think the focus of this bonsai should be on the trunk line, with a smallish apex

Let me know your thoughts, sorry for the shakiness of the last photo, iphone in the dark with flash.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Happy Birthday !!

I would appreciate a gift of a juniper for any occasion !

Nice material you have there, and I like the direction your tree is headed, and the image as a comparison is a good example of what may be acheived.

Please keep us posted with some updates, as I would love to see the progress with your work.

By the way, where did you get the stock ? I was up yor way recently and scoured some nurseries, didnt see anything of that caliber, well done !!

Hi Paul,

Its a lovely piece of stock. I happen to pick it up at our clubs Auction night last week.
I think i have probably learnt more in the past week, than at any other time over the last 18 months.

There really is no comparison from starter stock to something with a little more maturity and substance.

I really believe it should be emphasised on novices the importance of buying better quality stock.
Rather than buying 10 x $10-$ 30 material. Buy 2 or 3 three $100 pieces of material.
The options available and the number of different techniques that can be learnt from these pieces is quite startling.

Anyways enough of my little rant.

Here is a better photo of what i have done in the last two days.

And here is my first go at a virtual

Would this stock work well with a literati?

G'day Deepeetee, I like your virtual and you should easily be able to replicate the S-bend up top with one of the two upper most wired branches you have, probably the one to the right in the photograph.

Looking really nice Dave.

I now think I should have bid on this one. Do you fancy selling it to me for what you paid for it :)

Good buy mate - look forward to seeing where you take it

Regards
Steve

Thanks Dumper. I was a bit fumbly through Photoshop but i got there in the end.

Not convinced on the lower jin. Not convinced without it either.

Steve,
Hahahaha, i thought it was a bargain. Sell it back? Theres hardly any of it left.... :palm:

I have to keep it away from 'Sensai' for a while, he is not convinced i should lose all the bottom branches. But im going to have a crack nonetheless, see what i can come up with - whats the worst that could happen, it turns out rubbish. He wont be seeing this particular tree for sometime i think
