What not to do

Post by Pup »

We have an exhibition on this week end. So in preparing my trees, I have a Stone Pine ( Pinus pinea ) it had a lot of dead needles on the inside and some all over the tree.
So I had to remove them, I have a slight dermatitis problem so when the resin from Pines touches the skin it sets up a reaction,
( bloody sook ) so I wear cotton gloves.

This is fine all needles cleaned out tree back on the bench, two days later what the :lost: :palm: there were a lot of browning needles :?: :shake: , I could not fathom what was wrong.
Bloody cats was my immediate thought. So back to the workbench to start over, after spending 3 hours cleaning, I was not happy jan,
So I looked for my gloves, when I found them I realised.

What I had done and what caused the problem, the reason was. I had used the gloves when I was spraying roundup, and the sprayer was leaking somewhat. ( have replaced the O ring )
It had soaked into the gloves, so while I was using them to clean out the needles and some sweating, residue from the roundup got on the needles. Lesson learned and past on, the gloves got thrown out.
SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL

Sometimes its the small things we overlook which cost us the most!! I'm going to use the same excuse for my pine which did not make it, although I haven't used weedkiller anywhere near my plants or worn gloves associated with said weedkiller.
So the Redwood turns to the Bonsai and says "Lend me a Tenner"......

I hate weed killer. I always wear disposable latex gloves whenever I deal with it and chuck them straight after. If the roundup is soaking into the gloves and you keep wearing them then YOU also get a little dose everytime you put them on again.
