A CARVING DAY

Last weekend I had the opportunity to attend a “carving day” that was organised by the Canberra Bonsai Society. Of course the idea was to carve parts of bonsai to enhance their overall look and hopefully to also make the carving look natural.

I had recently acquired a Juniper sabina and devised a five year plan to firstly give the juniper some foundation carving, and then graft chinensis onto the plant.

This is step one in a process that will take some time but will also hopefully give me a Juniper chinensis shimpaku with a reasonable trunk width and aged bark, and with jins and shari.

The first step has now been completed and the following photos show the before and after look.

The first step has now been taken and the plan is to continually update this post over the coming years. Now, onto the grafting.
