AN INTERESTING CHINESE ELM

At the Western Creek bonsai exhibition recently there was a Chinese elm on display that really took my fancy. Having Chinese elm on display is nothing unusual as at most exhibitions there are a few but this one had something that instantly attracted me to it.

It was a small cascade bonsai, shohin size, in a small cascade pot on an elevated stand. It was the trunk styling that was the standout feature and I think most would agree that the foliage needed some time for refinement, but the bonsai told me a story.

Over the next few years this bonsai could really be developed and I hope the owner continues to develop it.
