Collected Juniper ( Seargents?)

Post by kcpoole »

There is a House near home that I pass by on the way to work, and have noticed that over the last few weeks, plants had been ripped out and the gardens removed.
In the last remaining garden was a large juniper and a couple of large Chaemecyperus and a Callistimon. Today I went for a walk and knocked on the door to see if any others were being removed.
The Owner was a nice retired lady that said she could not look after the gardens and her son was removing them for her.
I asked If I could take some and the magic words, "Take what you like" ensued :-)

I went home and collected a barrow and digging tools this arvo

The Juniper had been flattened but maybe will make something nice, but everything else is far to big. the Callistimon is a bout 9 ft tall and with trunk girth of nearly 18 inches. I have enough large trees, but would be a great collect as it has low branches and trunk separation.

Here is the Juni I collected and potted up
The soil was that horrible brown topsoil that never wets properly, and the rootball was all tangled up with the roots of the tree nest to it so I hosed them out and cleaned them up :fc: :fc:
Hope it recovers
Ken

Your a gluten for punishment mate! :) :tu:

Nice tree, are you going to remove some trunks or try and work with them all? Any plans of a chop height?
Regards, Mitchell.

I have removed 1 trunk that was half sawed thru and another one has a crack acroos the bottom so may go in the future.
I have shortened all the others to remove most of the foliage but have left at least 2 branches on each trunk with foliage on it at the moment.
I will not reduce any more until maybe next year when I hope to have lots of back shooting on the trunks. There is plenty of little shoots where the trunk have been exposed recently so if the recovery is goods I should get heaps :-)

I have no plans at yet what to do with the tree if / when it recovers but either Wire and bend the heck out of it, or maybe a multi trunk Windswept ?
